(BFM Bourse) – Overall in 2021, the New York Stock Exchange will experience significantly more days of closure than the Parisian market.
Given the leading role of Wall Street at the global level, the absence of American investors in the event of the closure of the overseas markets is often felt in the volumes traded even on European markets. Hence the importance of keeping an eye on the Wall Street calendar, even when only trading in French or European equities.
Overall in 2021, the New York Stock Exchange will experience significantly more closing days than Paris, as public holidays are often set on a Monday, or observed on a Monday if they fall over a weekend. Here are the days of the week when the US markets will be closed:
- Friday January 1 (New Year’s Day)
- Monday January 18 (commemoration of the birth of Martin Luther King)
- Monday February 15 (commemoration of the birth of George Washington)
- Friday April 2 (Good Friday)
- Monday, May 31 (Memorial Day)
- Monday July 5 (public holiday for the national holiday of the 4th, falling on Sunday)
- Monday September 6 (Labor Day)
- Thursday November 25 (Thanksgiving)
- Friday December 24 (Christmas Eve)
The doors to the US market remain open on October 11, but this date being a public holiday for the rest of the economy (Columbus Day), trading volumes are generally limited on this occasion.
In addition, New York Stock Exchange equity trading will only take place for a half-session (closing at 1 p.m. local time) on Friday, November 27, day after Thanksgiving, and December 24, Christmas Eve.
