According to the recent “Annual Audience Report” prepared by the consulting firm GecaTelecinco (14.6% share; -0.2) once again established itself as the leading channel in Spain for the ninth consecutive year, although it is true that it remains two tenths, something that does not prevent it from remaining unmarked in the first place of the cast with a comfortable advantage over rivals.
And it is that Telecinco has imposed itself against its direct competitors during all the months of this year, chaining victories since September 2018.
For its part, Antena (11.8%; +0.1) experienced a slight rise of one tenth, thus being the only one of the three large national chains that managed to close the year on the rise. And La 1 de TVE (9.3%; -0.1) worsens by one tenth the historical minimum that it already marked in 2019.
In any case, it is clear that we see less and less general television. All open operators worsened their results this year, with the sole exception of Atresmedia (26.3%; +0.1). This last group takes advantage of the increases of Antena 3 (11.8%; +0.1), Nova (2.5%; +0.3) and Atreseries (1.5%; +0.1) to compensate for the fall year-on-year experienced by Neox (2.0%; -0.4), the national channel that has lost the most performance compared to 2019.
In addition, the sum of traditional chains have once again repeated their historical low of 2019, accounting for 51.0% of consumption.
A figure that contrasts with the case of the thematic payment channels (8.4%; +0.5), which equal the best share of their trajectory (8.4% also in 2007) by adding 0.5 points. And that is precisely the figure that the group of DTT thematic channels loses (28.7%), which falls to its most discreet data in the last four years, weighed mainly by child-youth channels. For its part, the conglomerate of the rest of the chains (3.3%; +0.1) grew slightly for the third consecutive year.
And all this in a year in which television consumption has exploded due to the confinement caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
What about the second and third chains of Mediaset and Atresmedia?
La Sexta (Atresmedia, 7%; =) maintains its data from the previous year intact and continues ahead of Cuatro (Mediaset, 5.5%; +0.2), which increases its efficiency after four consecutive years of decreases. For its part, FDF (Mediaset, 2.6%) retains the thematic leadership, although this time it is haunted by Nova (Atresmedia, 2.5%; +0.3), which equals its all-time high.
