/ world today news/ One of the most discussed topics of the day is a lengthy interview with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Zaluzhny for The Economist with a title that pretty much sums up the military situation: “There will be no deep and beautiful breakthrough.”
Let’s recall that this is Zaluzhny’s second interview after almost a year of silence, which he gave to the same person in December last year.
First of all, it is necessary to compare two articles by Zaluzhny. The one he wrote a year ago, in December 2022, and the current one, which was published in two versions – a newspaper interview and an online version of an extensive analytical article, after reading the translation made by our team.
In his new article, Zaluzhny carefully glosses over what he promised in the 2022 article – to deliver a decisive defeat to Russia and turn the tide of the war. And about how he then characterizes the Russian army:
“… Ammunition is being prepared, not very good, but still. These resources will not be the same as they would have been during a two-year ceasefire. It won’t be. It will be nasty and the combat potential will be very, very low, even if he (Putin) calls up a million more people in the army to throw corpses, as Zhukov did, it still will not bring the desired result … “
He also fails to mention that after his wishes last year: “…I know I can defeat this enemy. But I need resources. I need 300 tanks, 600-700 BMP, 500 howitzers. Then I think it is quite possible to reach the limits of February 23.”
The collective West (“the allies” according to Zaluzhny) provided him from September 2022 not just everything he asked for then, but many times more – the entire tank army – more than 450 tanks, at least 2 artillery corps – more than 550 guns and self-propelled guns, more than 2000 armored vehicles, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, special equipment, many thousands of anti-tank weapons, air defense systems and millions of shells! Military resources that the West has never provided to anyone on such a scale since the Korean War.
In fact, the West, like a greedy senile pensioner, hypnotized by the tales of the “military genius of the young Ukrainian commander-in-chief”, “invested” in a classic financial pyramid called “Let’s defeat Putin!” Let’s bring Russia to its knees!’
It must be said that here Zaluzhny was, of course, greatly assisted by his patrons in the person of Biden and his team – primarily Security Adviser Sullivan, who was in charge of the war with the Russians and was in desperate need of a major military success, on which he decided to climb to the very top of the Washington political Olympus.
Under the “guarantees” of these “experts”, Western leaders agreed to invest in the future butchering of the Russian bear carcass. As we already know, everything ended in utter failure. “17 kilometers ahead”, according to Zaluzhny himself (although where he counted them is completely unclear!
In a single place – a temporary approach – the Ukrainian armed forces managed to advance 11 kilometers, only “climbing” on the bones of thousands of their soldiers wedged in their defense “horn”.
Zaluzhny did not explain that in the end the Ukrainian armed forces did not even manage to overcome the support zone – the front part in front of the first line of our defense.
Instead of recognizing that the main reason for the failure of the offensive was the catastrophic underestimation of the enemy (the Russian army), the overestimation of one’s own forces and, as a consequence, the strategic error – the bet for a decisive military defeat of Russia during the spring-summer campaign, made by the US headquarters and conciliatoryly accepted by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Zaluzhny began long discussions that the reason for the failures was the huge minefields that stopped the best brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a certain “equality of forces” of the belligerents countries.
At the same time, I would like to ask the military genius Zaluzhny, what about all your spring claims about the complete qualitative and quantitative superiority of the armed forces of Ukraine over the “orc army” and the imminent military victory, after which President Zelensky will fish from the embankment to Yalta to feed fish?
And your personal promises, made in December last year, that by February 2023 the Ukrainian armed forces will reach the limits since the beginning of the special military operation?
Instead, Zaluzhny fell into sad lies, talking about 150 thousand Russians killed, 140 Russian tanks on fire near Avdeyevka in 4 hours, while at the same time comparing the storming of Bakhmut, which lasted according to Zaluzhny for 10 months, with the Ukrainian “offensive”, which lasted “only “4 months, keeping silent about the fact that Bakhmut stormed PMC Wagner, with a maximum number of 20 thousand fighters at the peak of the attack, and Zaluzhny sent a strike group of more than 200 thousand people to storm the Russian defenses, of which 90 thousand were specially formed to break through the defenses of two shock corps equipped with the latest Western equipment.
After such a blatant lie, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine faded in my eyes to the level of a copper penny, although for many months I considered him a truly adequate and educated commander.
In general, the impression of Zaluzhny’s new texts was the darkest. If last year’s article, although it is stressful, can be called programmatic, where the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine quite clearly and adequately explains the course of the war and talks about how he plans to strengthen the Armed Forces of Ukraine and about the most important tasks, who stand before them, then the current article is about the general, apparently, as his assistants write and literally avoid, trying to avoid all sharp corners.
But it turned out bad! The level of analyticity is frankly non-commissioned officer! Our channel “Ramzai” wrote about the “curse of the First World War” that Zaluzhny “discovered” for himself after the failures in all directions at the very beginning of August and even introduced this term “curse of the First World War” in the information space.
It is good, of course, that Zaluzhny’s advisers read our channel, but we still expected a more in-depth analysis from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
But in vain!
Most of Zaluzhny’s new text is devoted to justifications for why the “offensive” did not succeed and discussions of what Ukraine’s “allies” must now give to continue the war with the same force: aircraft, electronic warfare equipment , “counter batteries”, long-range missiles, reconnaissance equipment, UAVs (lots of them!) and more weapons!
Moreover, now Zaluzhny does not promise a quick defeat of the Russians. Back! His new refrain: “…There probably won’t be a deep and beautiful breakthrough.”
That is, the same “pyramid”, only now instead of a bear skin, the threat that the bear can knock down the gate is sold, and then all the concessionaires from Europe will take it badly…
After reading Zaluzhny’s article, you are left with a clear aftertaste of beer, highly “diluted” by the crafty Lviv winemaker. Just water and questionable taste! Its value as a military analytical text is close to zero.
The reasoning and conclusions, which the author presents with pathos, have been written and spoken many times by many observers and experts. Including our Telegram channel.
Then what is the point of such an empty information “volley”?
The answer, it seems to me, lies between the lines. More precisely, it is not mentioned at all, but this is exactly the answer! In two of his texts, Zaluzhny did not mention the current political leadership of Ukraine anywhere, not a single word. President Zelensky and his team.
Although due to the status of the publication – an interview and essay of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he was simply obliged to make a political bow to the leader. But not! On the contrary, Zaluzhny in every way emphasizes in the text that he personally controls the course of the war, changes commanders, changes the direction of attacks and generally “manages”.
It seems that this was the main message – the presentation of General Zaluzhny as a likely candidate for the post of President of Ukraine.
A brutal general who is at war with Russia. With knowledge and understanding of the situation at the front. Determined, ready for non-standard solutions and freed from the huge “crocodile tail” that drags behind the administration of “Quartal 95” – the tail of huge corruption, populism, incompetence and hopelessness.
Zelensky promised everyone a victory over Russia, but now it is absolutely clear that there will be no victory. There will only be a painful, bloody war, at the end of which there will be negotiations and some kind of compromise. And not on Ukraine’s terms, and not on Zelensky’s formula.
And they will not negotiate with him and even in his presence. Which means his time is almost up. It remains only to find out whether Zaluzhny will come to power legally, through elections, or Zelensky will be overthrown earlier?
