What is the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest?

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide and the leading cause of death in the United States.

These diseases killed an estimated 17.9 million people in 2019, accounting for 32% of all deaths worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

But not all heart disease is created equal and it can affect the blood vessels that go to the heart, or the brain, heart muscles, valves and other areas of the body.

Cardiovascular disease may require long-term treatment and can come on suddenly and severely.

A cardiac arrest is different from a heart attack, but almost any known heart condition, including a heart attack, can cause a heart attack.
