Palmeiras is looking for a goalkeeper with an experienced profile to be Weverton’s immediate reserve from 2022 onwards. The idea is that this player sought by the club can replace the holder in periods of probable calls for the Brazilian team.
In this sense, one of the names on the agenda of Palmeiras is Marcelo Lomba, 34, from Internacional, who will not have his contract with Colorado renewed. Despite not being a boy anymore, Lomba is seven years younger than former reserve immediate Jaílson.
The interest was first disclosed by Globoesporte and later confirmed by UOL Sport.
The idea of bringing a player with greater experience also aims to help develop and give Vinicius Silvestre more time to mature, who has been playing in this final stretch of the Brazilian Championship due to Weverton’s vacation and Jaílson’s departure.
Despite being on the agenda, Lomba is not an absolute target for Alviverde. Other goalkeepers with a similar profile can be sought by Palmeiras. But the fact that Lomba is out of a contract at the end of the year does a lot in his favor.
