Waiting for Rio
The City plans to create a canine unit within the multi-municipal police. The dog is known, his name is Rio, he is a Dutch shepherd who already belongs to an agent, who will be promoted to dog handler within the service. Christiane Zanoni, deputy mayor in charge of security issues, justified this choice Monday evening, during the municipal council: “The canine brigade of a neighboring town has confirmed to us that the presence of a dog can be both a deterrent , benevolent and vigilant. This also makes it possible to reinforce the population’s feeling of tranquility on a daily basis, but also to allow mediation between citizens and the police by promoting exchanges”.
Brigitte Vaïsse, for the left opposition, has fun: she is not against the idea but according to her, the way in which the deliberation is presented is ready to smile. “I don’t know if people will be tempted to approach this dog who will be muzzled […] I think the best way to improve relations with residents is to do local policing…”, she slips. The pike is gone but Rio remains welcome. It will be of great use during the most risky interventions for patrols, such as when it is necessary to seize stray dogs or call to order the masters of molossers not kept on a leash.

Social housing: stop or
Point n° 10. As is often the case, the social landlord Batigère asks the City to guarantee him a loan that he takes out in order to acquire 28 housing units on rue de Longwy, on the site of the former Klopp greenhouses. As always, Brigitte Vaïsse seizes the opportunity: she regrets that we are “on top-of-the-range social housing” when there are “a certain number of single elderly people who cannot find housing” because of too expensive rents. A design that the elected Left defends as soon as she can but Pierre Cuny has his accounting logic. Or “820 social housing units created since 2016! In the case of rue de Longwy, he is sure of his shot. “It would have been abnormal to do PLAI (social housing for the most disadvantaged, editor’s note) when we are restructuring an entire political district of the City (Saint-Pierre) which is located right next door”.
