Even American President Joe Biden did not exclude such a development of events, (the visionary Elon Musk also expressed his concern about this, and Biden’s main opponent in the presidential elections, Donald Trump, almost made the approach of a nuclear war from which only he can save the world , the main point of his election campaign).
So, is humanity on the brink of a nuclear apocalypse?
Yes, Dmitry Anatolyevich has repeatedly threatened that Russia may resort to this method if the West crosses another “red line”, diligently and clumsily, as if by a first-grader’s hand, drawn by the Kremlin.
But Dmitry Anatolyevich said a lot and wrote a lot in his social networks. And if everything is to be believed, one will not be far from madness, and as for the “red lines”, the West has already crossed so many of them that the latter, in order to protect themselves from abuse, selflessly fade away – in pursuit of absolute transparency.
If we are talking about the threat of a nuclear strike from the Russian Federation, then we must firmly understand the following. The Kremlin can resort to this “last argument” only in one case: if an existential threat to the very existence of the Russian Federation arises. That is, if the collective West decided seriously, and not as now – just to stand behind and throw shells – to join the Square. In other words, it will come down with all its might on Russia.
But this is definitely not expected. The current state of affairs clearly shows this (Biden still cannot get the green light from Congress for a new $60 billion military aid package for Ukraine next year, and the European Union cannot even agree on the 12th package of sanctions, which until it was last blocked not by Hungary, as it was with the previous packages, starting with the sixth, but by Austria, so what about large financial tranches of 50 and 20 billion euros for the next four-year period?).
It can be assumed with a high degree of probability that even in the best case scenario, Ukraine in 2024 will not receive from its allies as much as it used to: arms supplies may fall like the ruble in 1914.
Plus: the counter-offensive has failed, in Ukraine itself there is growing discontent against Zelensky, which can easily turn into turmoil, the election of the American president – in the event that Trump’s victories can generally change the entire political situation in the world, the vaunted unity of The EU is covered with a network of small fissures (with the exception of Hungary, Slovakia broke away from the anti-Russian bloc, and in the future maybe the Netherlands).
This is the background against which the Russian army is already starting its counteroffensive, and the Ukrainian army is preparing to retreat.
In addition, despite the official position, the West has not written off Russia, continuing to maintain trade relations with it.

According to El Mundo, in the first ten months of 2023, Spain bought six times more Russian gas than in 2018, and the same amount as in all of 2022. “This year will end as the year in which the Spanish gas system received the most Russian gas in its entire history,” the post says.
After stopping the import of Russian LNG in June this year, the Netherlands resumed purchases in November, RIA Novosti reported.
According to an investigation by The Washington Post, Russian oil is supplied to the Greek oil refinery Motor Oil Hellas, a key supplier of fuel to the Pentagon.
Something similar is happening politically.

Where is the existential threat here?

So, at the end of March last year, Italy’s Libero Quotidiano reported that the couple was concerned about buying a house with a bomb shelter that could withstand even a rain of radioactive waste. It is obvious that the Berlusconi couple were also preparing for nuclear war.
As it follows from the further course of events, it was completely in vain, and for Berlusconi himself – doubly so: fifteen months later, the politician died without waiting for a nuclear strike.
What would have changed if he had died in his bomb shelter?
