what is known about the tragic death of the director of “Girls” abroad

Until now, there are several hypotheses about the death of Yuri Chulyukin.

Soviet director Yuri Chulyukin entered the history of cinema as a master of opera comedies. His first successful work in this direction was the painting “Inflexible” in 1959. Two years later, the premiere of “Girls” took place: the tape immediately received popular recognition. The success was so great that Chulyukin could no longer repeat it. In 1966, the film “Royal Regatta” was released, in which the director’s wife Natalya Kustinskaya got the main role, but the image did not become popular.

Later, Yuri switched to military and children’s history tapes. He has traveled abroad many times, presenting Soviet cinema to foreign audiences. From one of these business trips, the director has not returned home.

The day of Chulyukin’s death is still shrouded in mystery. In March 1987 it was at the Mozambique Film Festival. According to the official version, the director, through negligence, fell into the elevator shaft of the hotel. But Yuri’s colleagues reported having a fight with Africans who harassed actress Irina Shevchuk. Chulyukin’s fall was the result of a fight that followed the elevator. Due to political considerations, a detailed investigation into the director’s death has not been conducted, he writes “New hearth”.
