Scientists have found that some people may have an innate immunity to the coronavirus. It manifests itself at the cellular level, but test systems for testing it are too expensive and are not available everywhere. Rambler tells what is known about people with innate immunity to COVID-19.
The British Medical Journal published an article citing research by experts from different countries on innate immunity to coronavirus. According to experts, innate immunity to COVID-19 can be observed in 20-50% of people.
Some of the authors of the study are confident that such immunity was formed in people who have encountered other coronaviruses earlier. The fact is that this type of illness could occur in them like a common cold. Other doctors agree with them, who are sure that such immunity is called “innate” by mistake. However, this is not yet fully understood.
There are two types of immunity: antibodies and T cells. The former are produced after a person encounters a certain virus, and the latter appear after contact with any disease from a specific group.
T cells destroy the virus and form cellular memory. Thus, when a person encounters a virus again, he receives a response to it at the cellular level.
This immunity can also develop after a person has been ill with COVID-19. Some people without antibodies have cellular immunity that will prevent illness the next time the virus enters the body.
