Dual means literally double. In simple words, this is when the learning process is about 50% practice and 50% theoretical knowledge.

On the website of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, it is noted that such an approach is significantly different from practical exercises, since it is based not only on the consolidation of theory in practice, but also training in production conditions.

– The level of participation of employers in the dual form of education is the largest in the city of Kyiv (175), Zhytomyr (160), Lviv (134), Vinnytsia and Khmelnytsky (125), Rivne (111) regions, – it is noted on the website of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

After graduation, students who studied under the dual form already know and know how to work with technology, understand all technological processes and have experience of interaction with experienced specialists of enterprises.

Such students are often offered open positions at the same company, so their employment rate after training is quite high.

Mainly, the dual method of education is used by professional technical colleges and schools to prepare future specialists.

A bit of history

Dual education began to spread in Germany, where proportional education was introduced 30% theory, 70% practice even in the last century. Later, this approach was borrowed in Europe, Canada, South Korea and China.

In Ukraine, dual education was introduced during 2015-2017. At that time, an experiment was carried out on the organization of the educational and production process with elements of a dual form of education, in particular on the basis of vocational schools.

What are the advantages of dual education

According to the MES, the dual form of education has a number of positive aspects:

  • organization of cooperation between politicians, businesses, and social partners;
  • development of the legislative basis for the recognition of national standards of the quality of professional education;
  • training students during work;
  • involvement of qualified production personnel in pedagogical activities;
  • implementation of institutional research and consulting;
  • taking into account the specific requests of enterprises to the content and quality of professional education.

Currently, the dual form of education is just beginning to be introduced into the Ukrainian educational process.

It is designed not only to establish effective cooperation between educational institutions and the labor market, but also to create real conditions for students to study theoretical material in practice.

By the way, the work of students in the dual form is paid. This is a mandatory condition. That is, the student goes to a real paid job. Earnings usually depend on the contract and agreements between the employee and the employer.

At the same time, the student does not just receive money, but acquires the most concentrated and useful knowledge that is directly related to his profession.

The main advantages of such training should include, however, – practical experience. After all, theoretical knowledge, not supported by practice, is quickly forgotten.
