Russian reports have revealed that FIFA will not prevent Russia from participating in 2026 World Cup qualifiers if its membership is transferred from the European Union to the AFC. The source indicated that the Russian Federation will make its decision on moving to the AFC at the end of December. Several reports have confirmed that the European Football Federation opposes the idea of Russia moving to the Asian Union. The Russian Football Federation Executive Committee had previously discussed the possibility of transferring Russia’s membership from the European Football Federation to the Asian Football Confederation, against the backdrop of preventing Russian clubs and national teams from participating in European competitions.
