The media classified the flying object that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) recently found on the Moon as a “mysterious surfboard.” However, beyond the enigmatic, the discovery has a logical reason and they are not exactly UFOs, but the lunar probe Danuri.
Last Friday, the NASA showed images of the object, which were taken by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). As can be seen, it is something flat, very similar to a surfboard, which is why the media popularized the strange discovery in this way.
But, really the supposed “surfboard” was South Korea’s first lunar probe, called Danuri, which was sent into space by the Aerospace Research Institute of this country.

“The two spacecraft (LRO and Danuri), traveling in almost parallel orbits, crossed paths in opposite directions between March 5 and 6, 2024,” NASA reported.
To be clear, the Danuri orbiter is not a weirdly thin load of pixels—it’s a fairly normal-looking orbiter. But the terrific speeds involved mean that it’s smeared on the LRO’s camera detector.

Details about Danuri
Danuri It has been in space since December 2022, as specified New York Postthus becoming the first South Korean spacecraft to reach the Moon.
Swi published that the term ‘Danuri’ has two contractions which are “Dal”, which means ‘Moon’, and ‘Nuri’, which translates to ‘enjoy’. Its objective is to take photos and videos of both the lunar surface and the Earth in order to “select sites likely to host a lunar landing in 2032.”
Although its images are in black and white, they stand out for their great definition and they are taken less than 120 kilometers from the lunar surface. The Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) indicated that it makes a complete orbit around the Moon every two hours.
In addition to taking images of the Moon and Earth for analysis, Danuri makes measurements of magnetic force and gamma rays. Swi says that she “will also test the ‘space internet,’ an experimental technology, transmitting photos and videos to Earth.”
The first lunar probe is one of South Korea’s historic steps in studying space. Among the goals of this nation are to land a spacecraft in 2032 and send a plane to Mars in 2045.
