COXSACKIE VIRUS CASES REGISTERED IN MEXICO

– Myocarditis and pericarditis: In some cases, Coxsackie B virus can affect the heart, causing inflammation of the heart muscle (myocarditis) or the sac surrounding the heart (pericarditis), which can be serious and require immediate medical attention.

– Respiratory infections: Some cases of colds or respiratory infections may be caused by the Coxsackie virus.

HOW IS IT TRANSMITTED AND WHAT IS ITS TREATMENT?

Coxsackie virus is transmitted mainly through these four points:

1. Direct contact with someone infected: The virus can be transmitted from one person to another through direct contact with infected secretions, such as saliva, mucus, or feces. This form occurs most frequently in daycares, schools, and homes.

2. Respiratory aerosols: Through sneezing or coughing, an infected person can release droplets of saliva or secretions that contain the virus.

3. Contaminated surfaces: The virus has the ability to survive on contaminated surfaces or objects, such as toys, handles or towels.

4. Stool: Coxsackievirus can be found in the feces of an infected person, and transmission can occur if contaminated feces are ingested indirectly, through contaminated water or food, or by not washing hands properly after using the bathroom.

There is no specific treatment for infections caused by the Coxsackie virus, so far it mainly focuses on relieving symptoms, such as fever and pain, with over-the-counter medications such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
