Why don’t we say Eid-al-Fitr?
Eid al-Fitr is also often called Eid al-Fitr. “That is probably a bit of a factor because a lot of sweets are eaten during the festival. The children in particular get a lot of sweet dishes such as baklava,” the mosque communities explain. The official name is Eid al-Fitr. Because some Muslims believe that the term Eid detracts from the value of the festival – it is not just about eating sweets – we use Omroep Gelderland the official name: Eid al-Fitr.
