Group BLACKPINK Jisoo picked the points to watch for her first solo album ‘ME’.
Jisoo will release her solo debut album ‘Me’ on March 31st at 1pm (Korean time). Through the title song ‘FLOWER’ and the b-side song ‘All Eyes On Me’, Jisoo melted a variety of colors that had not been seen before.
Jisoo has been involved in the overall production process of the album and put in a lot of effort for a long time. He said, “It was a pleasant journey to find music that I do best and only I can do. I hope that listeners will also discover a new index.”
Q. As it is the first album released by Jisoo as a solo artist, I think it will be new. How do you feel about the comeback?
Whenever teasing was released, I looked for fans’ reactions and waited for the comeback together. I’m excited to finally be able to show you the things I’ve been preparing for a long time. If fans are happy when they receive this album filled with ‘Jisoo’, I would be very happy.
Q. Please introduce the album.
“What is the charm of a solo artist Jisoo?” While preparing for the album, question marks floated around in my head. I wanted to show a new and diverse side of myself while protecting myself. It is an album of ‘me’ itself, created after a lot of trouble to look inside and express it. I participated in the overall part of the album, and I worked with that kind of determination from beginning to end. As I go through the process of discovering new charms that I didn’t know about, I feel myself growing and becoming stronger.
Q. What is the most important part of the album?
I thought about what I could show as a solo artist Jisoo rather than Blackpink Jisoo, and I captured the colorful charms that only Jisoo can show. He discovered a new ‘me’ in it while constantly developing for ‘music that I do best and only I can do’. I completed an album that contains my story by coming up with ideas for everything from music to concept, styling, and music videos.
Q. What kind of songs are the title song ‘FLOWER’ and the b-side song ‘All Eyes on Me’?
I chose ‘FLOWER’ as the title song because it’s a song that can express me the best, with vocals, performance, and visual elements that go well together in all aspects. From the first time I heard the demo in the studio, something came to me like fate. It’s a dance song, but the lyrics are lyrical, so it has an unexpected charm, and the hook part is very addictive. The affection for ‘All Eyes on Me’ is so special that it was prepared as a candidate for the title track. Feeling cheerful yet deadly? I think a lot of people will like it as much as I do.
Q. You set a new record even before your comeback. The number of pre-orders exceeded 1.3 million copies, achieving the highest number ever for a single album by a female K-pop solo artist.
Every time I hear the modifier ‘first’, my heart flutters and I am amazed. I am grateful that so many fans are cheering for me and looking forward to it, and I feel that I need to work harder. To repay that expectation, I am doing my best until the end. Through the world tour, last year’s finale and this year’s start are with fans, and I’m so happy to release a solo album. It wasn’t prepared with the season in mind, but the timing was perfect as the album was released in the spring when ‘flowers’ bloom. Good start (laughs)
Q. The music video is a hot topic starting with the teaser, so if you could explain the points to watch.
It is rewarding because it seems to have come out satisfactorily. It was all-location in the United States, but I remember a lot from the set on the streets of Universal Studios New York. Filming in an empty street made me feel like I was in the world of The Truman Show. To give a little spoiler about the music video, there are various indexes? (Laughs) It will be fun to discover something new every time you watch it.
Q. What kind of support did the BLACKPINK members give you?
Even in the midst of being busy, he always watched the preparation process by his side and gave various opinions. Seeing the members’ positive reactions, I gained great courage and confidence. Rosé, who happened to be in LA, also came to the music video set. He was even more glad to meet the members in an unexpected situation. He was always with the members, but he was a little lonely when he was alone, but as soon as he saw Rosé, his energy seemed to be 100% charged (laughs).
Q. If the plan or goal for this activity was fulfilled.
I met fans as a solo artist Jisoo. With that alone, she has already achieved her goal. If there’s anything more you want, it’s to increase the ‘happiness index’ of our Blinks. We prepared an event for our fans and wrote a message for Blink in the album. It’s not easy because we’re on a world tour, but we’re working hard to create opportunities to communicate more closely with fans besides the stage. I hope you can join us and gain energy.
