What is a Rooftop in New York?

If you are planning your next trip to New York, you have certainly heard of Rooftops… These are actually bars set up at the top of Manhattan buildings and which allow you to have a drink while enjoying a spectacular view of New York. Bars that are right on trend!
The concept of the Rooftop bar is however not something new in New York since the very first opened in 1890 at the top of the Casino Theater, a performance hall located at the corner of Broadway and 39th Street. The Casino Theater was destroyed in 1930 and the Rooftop concept gradually fell into disuse.

The 3 addresses in sight!

Today, the Rooftop is making a comeback, with three addresses that stand out:

  • The best known address is 230 Fifth, on Fifth Avenue, close to Madison Square Park and the Flatiron building. This Rooftop bar is actually placed right in front of the Empire State building, offering an unforgettable view!
  • If you want to be even closer to the Empire State building, go up to the Seen, one of the latest addresses. This bar is located on the 14th floor of the building located at 17 West 32nd Street, between Fifth and 6th Avenue, ie only one block from the Empire State building.
  • Another recent address that is worth a detour: the Spyglass, a Rooftop bar located on the 22nd floor of the Archer Hotel. No need to be a hotel guest to come and have a drink! The view is also spectacular there because you are very close to the Empire State building but with enough distance.
