what is a home improvement loan?

In addition to the allowances that almost everyone knows, the Caf can also grant loans relating to housing.

The Family Allowance Fund (Caf) has a whole range of assistance dedicated to housing. And this, whether you are planning to access the property for the first time or whether you are having difficulty paying your rent, or whether you are looking to improve your home…

Here we focus only on the home improvement loans (PaH).

Home Improvement Loan (PaH)

This loan will concern all renovation or thermal insulation work to be carried out in the main residence. There are no resource conditions.

It can cover up to 80% of the planned expenses within the limit of the ceiling in force (1,067 euros). Here are the eligibility requirements:

  • reside in France;
  • if it concerns maintenance work (painting, etc.), you cannot claim the Pah;
  • be a beneficiary of a family benefit, but not if you only receive one of the following: Als, Apl, Aah, Rsa, Activity bonus;
  • have at least one dependent child.

Its interest rate is 1%, and it must be repaid in 3 years maximum. It is paid in two instalments, in other words when the loan contract is signed, upon presentation of an estimate. The second half is paid the month following the end of the work, upon presentation of the invoices.

The case of the Loan to improve the reception area (Pala)

This zero-rate loan for an amount capped at 10,000 euros can only be granted to childminders, without the need for them to already be Caf recipients.

As its name suggests, the loan must finance work either at the home of the maternal assistant or in a house of maternal assistants. This work must improve the reception, health or safety of the children who are welcomed there.

The Caf also helps, apart from renovation or various works, housing tenants to pay their rents. The aid is then subject to income conditions.
