Insurance ombudsman Wilhelm Schluckebier recorded 18,344 complaints last year. The number of entries allowed was 14,106. This is an increase of 6.6 percent compared to the previous year. There was strong growth in property insurance, especially in building and household insurance. But the number of complaints also increased in life insurance.
Overall, however, the increase is within the usual fluctuations, explains Constantin Graf von Rex, managing director of the association. Values fell in the other divisions. Wilhelm Schluckebier emphasizes that the increase in building and household insurance is due to a conflict-ridden action by a single intermediary company. Since the previous insurer considered the notice of termination given by the intermediary to be invalid, but the new contracts with the new insurer had already come into force, the customers had to pay double the premiums.
