A mosquito control operation took place in Pamiers during the night of this Sunday October 6 to Monday October 7, precisely between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.. The objective of this: “to avoid a potential chain of transmission”, specify theRegional Health Agency (ARS) Occitaniewho requested this processing to be carried out, and the Ariège prefecture in a joint press release. Indeed, a case of dengue fever has been declared in the town. And, as a reminder, the tiger mosquito is the vector of this disease.
The treatment was carried out by a company specialized “in a circle of 150 meters radius around the location of detection of the case » of dengue fever. Indeed, the tiger mosquito moves little and generally stays within an area of 150 meters. Note that the products that were used during the treatment are based on a pyrethroid or may be natural pyrethrins. In any case, these are “active ingredients which are present in household mosquito repellent products available in pharmacies and commercially”.
Instructions to follow after mosquito control
“Residents of the area concerned were informed on Saturday October 5 by the ARS services, by means of a flyer placed in their mailbox, of the implementation of the system and the precautionary measures to be taken », Indicate the ARS and state services. The latter had to, before spraying the insecticides, “bring in the laundry, children’s toys or food that might be outside” and “keep the animals away or bring them in”, then at the time of treatment, “go home and close windows overlooking the public highway” and “do not stand near processing equipment”.
Residents of the treated area also have several guidelines to follow after the mosquito control operation. So, you must “ rinse garden furniture as well as vegetables and fruits from the garden with water », but be careful, you must wait “three days after treatment to consume them”. It is also recommended to “ empty, remove, clean or hermetically cover larval breeding sites (buckets, plant pots, cans, manholes, used tires, etc.) every week to prevent the development of tiger mosquito larvae.
