It is a new anniversary of the premiere of Matrix, the film that revolutionized the science fiction genre in 1999 and we tell you facts that you should already know about this saga.
Starring Keanu Reeves and directed by the Wachowski sisters, the saga became a movie classic that to this day is still remembered by all moviegoers.
Taking advantage of its anniversary, we leave you some curiosities that, perhaps, you did not know about the saga:
Will Smith pudo ser Neo
Will was a candidate to play Neo in The Matrix, but had to decline the offer as filming for Wild Wild West began. The Wachowski sisters wanted Johnny Depp for the Chosen One but they did not reach an agreement.
Where did the Matrix come from?
The term “Matrix” (matrix in Spanish) is attributed to the author William Gibson, who even said that the directors “They robbed him” the expression of his novel Neuromante, a classic of science fiction.
Val Kilmer and Samuel L. Jackson could be Morpheus
In addition Russell Crowe and Gary Oldman also auditioned for the tape but it was left to Laurence Fishburne.
The “Matrix” code
The code was designed by Simon Whiteley, and includes Japanese characters, as well as Western letters and numbers. The bright green font color is a tribute to the monochrome monitors of old computers.
Homenaje a Ghost in the Shell
The green colors of the Matrix code were a tribute to the old monochrome computers, but it was also a nod to the animated film Ghost in the Shell, which was a clear inspiration for the Wachowski Sisters.
The shape of the glasses
Most of the characters have sunglasses. But not everything is the same. The roles of the good guys: Neo, Trinity or Morpheus, have rounded sunglasses, while the villains, like Agent Smith, have square ones.
Greek mythology in the Matrix
The directors used Greek mythology to build their story. For example, Morpheus is named after the god of dreams.
Fracture prematurely
During the casting, Carrie-Anne Moss accidentally broke her ankle, but did not tell anyone for fear of being discarded for the role of Trinity.
A millionaire donation
General Motors donated more than 200 cars to the film’s production. In the end, as we saw on the tape, they were all destroyed.
Location of Birth
All the references that are made about the places and streets of the Matrix are from the city of Chicago, where the Wachowski sisters grew up.
