What if RI Really Goes Into the “Sexual Downturn”

Jakarta

Indonesia is said to have the potential to experience a “sexual recession” in the coming years. This is the impact of a number of cities/regencies in Indonesia that have experienced zero new births or zero growth.

The sex recession is characterized by a decrease in the birth rate because residents do not want to have sex, get married or have children.

National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) chief Hasto Wardoyo said lifestyle is suspected to be the cause of the crash. Here are the facts.

Zero-growth areas

One of the areas mentioned is Yogyakarta. Do-it-yourself as a whole has an average birth rate of 2.2 and even 1.9 in some districts/cities. That is, most women give birth to fewer than two children.

“If fewer than two aren’t necessarily giving birth to women, because the potential is 50:50, giving birth to men is half the ratio, so if everyone is driven so hard for their children it doesn’t necessarily mean they have women,” Hasto said.

Ideally, at least one woman would need to bear a daughter to achieve adequate population growth. Because, if there are fewer and fewer women giving birth, negative growth at the national level will not be possible.

Reasons why women refuse to have children

There are a number of factors that make women not want to get married and have children. Psychologist Indah Sundari Jayanti, MPsi, said this some time ago. According to him, the strict demands and stigma on women of being ideal according to social standards could be one of the triggers.

Also, there is another possibility that a woman has long felt reluctance to get married and have children. Seeing many other people doing the same thing, the woman feels validated and therefore does not hesitate to follow her wishes.

“The more we come here, the more demands and challenges we face. It automatically impacts how ready we are to get married, to be mothers, to take care of children,” Indah said when she was met by detik.com a while back.

“In fact, there are many women who decide (to have just one child). Not because they don’t want to have more children, but they know that (having children) is going to be very challenging in the future,” she continued.
