In the caravan
“The only thing we can hear here is the tractor,” says Sonja Manthey as she looks at the vineyards. Together with her mother, ten-year-old daughter Zo and the two dogs, she travels through Germany in a caravan. They are on the road for a good two weeks, four days of which they spend on the parking lot of the Kbelin winery in Eichstetten. There the vintners provide space for three caravans or mobile homes. The family from Hanover has been on vacation with the caravan for six years, and they have been to Eichstetten several times. “A few years ago we ended up here by chance, now we are planning a permanent stop. The peace and quiet here is just lovely.” But the Manthey family never gets bored on their vacation at the Kaiserstuhl. “Yesterday we walked from our caravan to the Eichelspitzturm, and today we want to go to Freiburg for ice cream.”
