Today the world celebrates International Animation Day. The holiday was established in 2002 by the International Animated Film Association in honor of the 110th anniversary of the first animation technology, presented to the public on this day in Paris. Memorial Day of St. Euthymius of Thessalonica
The Orthodox Church today remembers Euthymius of Thessalonica, who lived in Palestine in the 9th century. He was born into a Christian family, married early, but at the age of 18, leaving his wife and daughter, he took monastic vows. Subsequently, Euthymius founded a monastic community and restored the ruins of one of the ancient monasteries. The monk died there, in Palestine. During his lifetime, he became famous for his gift of miracles. According to information that has survived to this day, Euthymius could cure serious illnesses and help people even in the most hopeless cases.

According to the folk calendar, October 28 is the day of Euthymius of the Autumn. At this time, people in Rus’ were mainly engaged in household chores. Women prepared fabrics, men strengthened and insulated homes. According to popular beliefs, at the end of autumn, evil spirits began to hover near the huts to harm people. Our ancestors were especially annoyed by Kikimora. It was believed that it tangled threads and damaged machines and household utensils. To drive out Kikimora, the peasants turned to Saint Euthymius of Thessalonica. They asked for deliverance from evil spirits, as well as for health and well-being in the coming winter.
