On April 7, the Orthodox Church honors confessor George Mytileneskyi, martyr Akilina and hetman Peter Konashevich-Sagaidachny in a new style.

Our ancestors interacted with water on this national holiday: they washed clothes in rivers and lakes, washed and wiped themselves with spring water, went to the bathhouse. People believed that such actions would bring them health and beauty.

According to the old style, today believers celebrate the Annunciation 2024. For Ukrainians, it was a big and very important holiday, on which it is strictly forbidden to work. The people said that even a bird does not build a nest on the Annunciation.

The national holiday of April 7 was called the third meeting of spring after the Annunciation and the Forty Martyrs. It was believed that with the Annunciation comes real spring warmth and there will be no more frosts. On this day, snakes crawling out of their holes and the arrival of migratory birds were expected. The birds were greeted with great joy and feeders were left in the garden for them to hunt for pests.

In ancient times, it was considered a great sin to disturb the land before the Annunciation. Therefore, until the April 7 holiday, Ukrainians did not sow or plant anything in the garden. Only after this date did they start sowing seeds.

April 7 is considered auspicious for honey growers. Beekeepers exhibited beehives on this day.

• The weather on the Annunciation will be the same on Easter.
• Storks are already sitting on eggs – until a warm spring.
• If the night before the Annunciation (from April 6 to 7) is warm, then real spring has already arrived and there will be no more frosts.
• A thunderstorm on this day portends a rich harvest of nuts, and rain – mushrooms.
• Swallows flew in from warm regions – to warm April.
• A lot of flies or bees appeared – there will be no more frosts.
