Russian nutritionist Olga Koraplyova points out that anemia and dental problems are only a small part of the list of problems for those who give up eating meat.

And she adds, when a person switches from a diet that contains meat to a vegetarian diet, he must know that the body needs a period of time to adapt to this change, as he will suffer in the first days from flatulence and a large number of gases. Because the bacteria, which are able to split the cellulose present in all plants, are few in the intestine, so the absorption of plant protein is poor, according to “Russia Today”.

Meat is the most common type of food that makes a person feel full, as 100 grams of boiled meat contains 20-30 grams of protein (lamb meat 22 grams, rabbit meat 25 c, and beef 29 c). An adult human needs 60-80 grams of protein per day, preferably 50% of it from animal sources.

And the expert adds, therefore, “If a person gives up eating meat, he will have to eat more hydrocarbons to overcome the feeling of hunger. And make more efforts to control weight.”

And completely cutting out meat causes deficiencies in vitamins D and B12, iodine, phosphorous and calcium. In addition to this, vegetable protein helps excrete calcium from the body with the urine, which leads to a worsening of the condition of the teeth, bones and hair, which 90% of it consists of a protein called keratin, and abandoning the meat may cause dry skin and brittle nails. Therefore, a person should have a blood and urine analysis every six months, to determine the level of the ferritin protein responsible for storing and releasing iron. This protein is essential for normal muscle function, recovery after exercise and physical activity.

And those who give up eating meat usually indicate that they feel light-headed and have a good mood. But this may be the first sign of anemia. Because in this state the body produces less red blood cells, which transport oxygen from the lungs to all tissues of the body. In the late stage, a person suffers from anemia, shortness of breath, lack of energy, sleepiness, and rapid fatigue.

It should be noted, that anemia is not caused by nutrition alone, but also a common cause of vitamin B12 or iron deficiency. Iron, which is part of hemoglobin, is absorbed by the body better than meat. And 25% worse than milk and eggs.

The expert notes that there are studies according to which giving up meat reduces the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, by 22%. However, a direct relationship between this ratio and the biochemical processes taking place in the body has not been discovered.

And she adds, to reduce the risk of these diseases, extra weight must be lost. Because obesity is one of the main causes of various heart diseases.

The expert concludes by saying that, in general, everyone who wants to switch to a vegetarian diet should consult a doctor first.
