What Happens When Humans Die and Are Buried In Space

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The process that occurs in the human body that dies in the outer space will be different from corpse who died on Earth.

Because, many things can affect the condition of human bodies who died in outer space. Thus, the body can last hundreds of millions of years or even crumble to dust, depending on where the body is located.

For example, if a body dies on the Moon, the extreme hot-cold temperatures of 120 degrees Celsius during the day and -170 degrees Celsius at night can destroy the body due to overheating or freeze due to too cold.

Things are different if humans die on Mars. Mars’ desert-like conditions are likely to dry out the soft tissues of dead humans on the red planet. In addition, gusts of wind and sediment on Mars are likely to damage the human skeleton as on Earth.

Human process dies

When humans die, the body will go through a number of processes, namely livor moritis, algor mortis, and rigor mortis.

Livor moritis is a sign of death through the deposition of blood flowing in the limbs. Meanwhile, algor mortis occurs when the body temperature decreases so that the body becomes cold. After that, rigor mortis occurs when the body becomes stiff due to tightened body muscles due to accumulation of calcium in muscle fibers.

Next, the body’s enzymes in the form of proteins that speed up chemical reactions, break down cell walls and release their contents. At the same time, the bacteria in our intestines get out and spread throughout the body.

These bacteria then devour the soft tissue and the process of decomposition of the body occurs. They also trigger gas out which causes the body to swell.

Stiffness of the body due to rigor mortis no longer occurs after the muscles are destroyed. As a result, a pungent odor appears after this soft tissue ruptures.

In addition, dead bodies on Earth will also be helped decomposed by other living organisms such as insects, microbes, and even plants.

However, the Environment on a different planet would not give the same decomposition treatment to a dead human body. Because, insects and decomposers that exist on Earth, do not exist on other planets.
