Germs from food scraps can damage dental health.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Teeth and mouth are the gateway for disease germs. Maintaining his health is important to prevent possible damage to the teeth, especially during the pandemic.

Expert dental health Dr. Theresia Dessy explained, germs that come from eating leftovers that are left too long can become plaques. He reminded that plaque grows very fast and within a few days the plaque will increasingly accumulate, mature, remove toxins, and can endanger the health of teeth and mouth.

“As a result it can cause problems with teeth and oral cavity,” he said in a health education themed “Keep Oral and Dental Health Optimize Overall Body Health in the Pandemic Period” through Facebook Live, Thursday (2/7).

Theresia revealed, various problems can disturb people who are not diligent and not routinely in maintaining healthy teeth and mouth are bad breath, plaque, swollen gums, gums bleed easily when brushing teeth, the emergence of tartar which indicates hardening of plaque, and cavities (caries) . If left untreated or not treated it can cause infections in the oral cavity, can even make us more vulnerable to various other serious diseases.

“People with poor oral health have two to three times the risk of developing cardiovascular disease or heart attacks caused by inflammation of the gums and bacteria which can ultimately cause narrowing of blood vessels,” he explained.

In addition, poor blood sugar control for diabetics can increase the risk of developing dental and oral disease called periodontitis. The cavities where bacteria live can spread directly to other organs, including the lungs and trigger pneumonia.

In pregnant women, cavities can cause premature birth caused by infection. Therefore, it is important to take care of your oral health by brushing your teeth properly.
