Think of our ancestors. In the Middle Ages, bathing was considered debauchery, being avoided for religious reasons – no wonder that in those days plague epidemics were wreaking havoc among the population throughout Europe.
The risk that people around you will avoid because of the smell if you do not wash for a certain period of time, is the last thing we should consider. There are much more serious problems that can endanger our health due to lack of personal hygiene.
People are proud owners of almost 1,000 types of bacteria and another 40 types of fungi, reports The Mirror. These are the “good guys” who help us stay clean – because they feed on foreign substances that come in contact with our cells.
However, bacteria and fungi need little help from showering with soap and water. Even if you do not have a body that sweats often, it does not mean that you get dirty – or rather, over time we come in contact with these bacteria that can make us sick.
What exactly are the unpleasant odors of a body that has not showered in a few days? They are gases eliminated by the bacteria that feed on the proteins and fatty acids of our body that we need. They can produce up to 30 types of embarrassing odors.
