We often think of “the Internet” in terms of problems and challenges. But what is actually so great, good and beautiful about the Internet? What do the possibilities of spatially and temporally independent communication and access to global knowledge mean?

Online lecture and discussion on September 20, 2024, 7:00 p.m.

Online lecture and discussion with educational scientist and pedagogue Nele Hirsch

The Internet offers endless possibilities for cooperation and collaboration, sharing knowledge and participation. But this potential can only be realized if we actively shape it.

In this talk, Nele Hirsch (freelance educator in the eBildungslabor) reports on her experiences with this challenge. Topics include open sharing thanks to free and open educational materials and Creative Commons, the development of a business model for sharing with free licenses, the pitfalls of responsible media use, networking via the Fediverse (an association of independent social networks) and the joys of having your own home on the Internet with your own domain. Building on this impulse, there is space to discuss together how we can create a future together in which free knowledge and digital literacy form the foundation for a social, sustainable and democratic society.

Lecture with discussion panel in the Digital Fight Club series.

The event is the fourth date for the Digital Fight Club – a series of discussion events, each of which deals with a specific internet policy topic. They provide insights, put things into context, and clarify connections and opportunities for influence. This makes the sometimes complex topics easier to understand and enables those interested to have their say.

The event will take place in person at Zentralwerk Dresden in collaboration with the festival “Datenspuren” and as a livestream.

The link to the stream will be available shortly before the event here and on the Data traces announced.

Detailed information can also be found on the Event website.

An event in cooperation with the Media Culture Center Dresden, the Saxon State Center for Political Education (SLpB), the State Center for Political Education Rhineland-Palatinate, the Hessian State Center for Political Education and the Dresden Adult Education Center.
