What future for the Montluçon-Guéret aerodrome in Lépaud?

The departmental council of Creuse, which has just voted its initial budget, is a member of the mixed union of the aerodrome of Montluçon-Guéret. It participates in the financing of the infrastructure to the tune of 102,000 euros in 2022 (68,000 € in operation and 34,000 € in investment). The activity of the aerodrome tends to decrease.

The amount of taxes collected in 2021 is down sharply. There were only four commercial flights last year. Military flights have increased, but these movements are priced on a flat rate by the operator. There was no drone-related activity in 2021.

A new hangar for Safran

The Safran group has not carried out any tests. The agglomeration community of Grand Guéret asked in April to withdraw from the mixed syndicate. She did not win the case.

“I wonder what the Lépaud aerodrome is used for today, if not to consume public money, launched yesterday Eric Bodeau, departmental councilor and 1st vice-president of Grand Guéret. Each year, it costs the Agglo €25,000. ” Franck Foulon, the president of the joint union of the aerodrome, confirmed the drop in activity, “linked to civil aviation which is in crisis” and indicated that he understood the position of the Agglo de Guéret .

A firm has been recruited to carry out a prospective study for the development of the platform. “The question is what do we want to do with this aerodrome tomorrow, with whom and how”, specifies Franck Foulon.

The Safran company is requesting the construction of a new hangar. But she “does not want to commit to the long term to test drones” deplores the president of the union. For Jean-Jacques Lozach, “the debate is launched on maintaining or closing the platform”. The senator and departmental councilor says he is “very skeptical” about the “drone sector” project launched by the CCI of Creuse.
