A month and a half from the end of the season and a little over a year from the end of his contract, what is Paulo Dybala’s future? Author of a winning and spectacular return against Naples, Joya has still not extended with Juventus. Sports dailies are having a great time making assumptions.
The darkest and most pessimistic picture is the Gazzetta dello Sport which paints it. According to the Milan daily, the goal scored by Joya on Wednesday will not be enough to convince the leaders of Juventus. According to the pink newspaper, the tension is sharp between the leaders and the Argentinian who would risk leaving the club for free within a year. For the Gazzetta, the club’s desire is to renew the contract before selling number 10, so as not to lose a hundredth of capital gain.
The reality is actually much less bleak, but the future of the player remains uncertain. During the post-match interview on Wednesday, Andrea Pirlo once again stressed the importance of Dybala and his hope that he can be counted on next season. A few weeks ago, questioned about the permanence in bianconero of Dybala, Fabio Paratici recalled that all the opportunities of the transfer window would be evaluated, thus not excluding a departure from the money of 27 years.
The situation is as follows: several months ago, the Bianconeri executives entered into discussions with the player and his agent. Last fall, a new contract – with a net salary of 10 million euros – was offered to the player (who currently earns 7.5 million). The offer has not yet been accepted by the player, however, who has however always denied asking for a salary of 15 million as suggested by the press. But obviously, La Joya wants more and a deal could most certainly be found on the basis of 12.5 million.
Discussions have stalled since then. But they are for a whole host of good reasons. Because of the health situation and its negative impact from all points of view. But also because of the difficult months that Dybala has just lived, little spared throughout the season between Covid, virus and injuries. He is now back but the team is playing big at the end of the season, the players must remain focused on this final and on the objectives to be sought. Discussing the contract is therefore certainly not a priority for the club or even for the player. Little used so far, Dybala wants to take advantage of this end of the season to demonstrate that he is back to his best level, to reassure his state of form and to make his contribution to the team. For its part, Juventus must see clearly what the future will be: to know the available budget, the club must first know if the team will play in the Champions League next season. Fabio Paratici therefore has no choice but to wait until May. By then, he will also have a better view of Dybala’s impact in Pirlo’s system.
At this stage, Juve are clearly ready for all hypotheses, they are not closing any doors. Well aware of the qualities of the player, the leaders of Juve also know that a departure for a good sum would allow to give a little breath to finances which are not doing well since the beginning of the Covid crisis. The departure of a great player is therefore not to be excluded and Dybala could pay the price, especially if the permanence in bianconero of Cristiano Ronaldo is confirmed.
And Dybala? His will is and always has been to stay in Turin. He has no doubts about it. He wants to be part of the club’s history and he wants to continue to play an important role, otherwise he would not have turned down Manchester United in the past. Idolized by a large part of the tifosi, the Joya continue to evolve under the jersey of the Old Lady. Everything will depend on the next few weeks, his performances, those of the team, but also discussions with Pirlo and with the leaders of Juve. Everything remains to be written so, until then Dybala wants to stay focused on short-term goals.
