The Declic community filed a complaint on Friday, July 30, with the National Anticorruption Directorate, on behalf of Prime Minister Florin Cîțu and former state councilor Mioara Costin, for the accusations of instigating abuse of office, respectively abuse of office.

Now, the Declic community is asking for the support of Romanians to make other denunciations in the future. ”304 members answered our call and contributed so that we could cover the legal expenses (no – in case of reporting to DNA on behalf of Florin Cîțu). We were able to file a criminal complaint because of the members of Declic, and not because we received money from a party. And the people of our community know the truth. But what worries us is that the next time there are suspicions that a politician or a state institution has broken the law, we will not be able to raise money as easily as to make another complaint, “said the Declic community. .
Here is the full message:
”Hip,
Last week we went to DNA, to file a complaint on behalf of Prime Minister Florin Cîțu and the former state councilor, Mioara Costin. I appeared in all the national press. But we were shocked when we read accusations that we acted on the orders of some political parties. Or that we would have been paid to attack the prime minister. Some even insinuated that we wanted to blackmail Florin Cîțu with this denunciation, in order to be sure that he does not withdraw the Roșia Montană file from UNESCO.
It seemed to us, however, that the prosecutors needed to clarify what had happened in the prime minister’s office. A document with the Government’s header and taken over by several online publications showed how the state councilor made the campaign strategy for him, in order to win the PNL leadership. That is, he used government resources to favor a candidate in the internal party struggle.
The conspiracies launched in connection with our approach left us with a bitter taste. However, we cannot help but think of the hundreds of Declic members who have contributed to this denunciation. And you, like us, have considered that finding out the truth is more important than any accusation that could have been brought against us.
It wasn’t easy at first. When we saw that we did not have enough money in our wallets to pay the lawyer’s fee, we urgently launched a fundraiser in the Community. We did not know if we would be able to raise, in a timely manner, the amount needed to cover legal costs.
The good news is that the money has finally been raised. 304 members answered our call and contributed so that we could cover the legal costs. We were able to file a criminal complaint because of the members of Declic, and not because we received money from a party. And the people of our community know the truth.
But what worries us is that the next time there is a suspicion that a politician or a state institution has broken the law, we will not be able to raise money as easily to make a complaint.
This is also the role of conspiracies, to discourage us from doing the same in the future. Our independence and political impartiality scare them the most, Anca.
We support our work from the contributions of Declic community members. That is why we can be independent and critical of anyone. And we would be happy, Anca, if you could be one of the Declic donors.
Donations from ordinary people, like you and me, are what make such impactful actions possible. And that strengthens our independence that allows us to file a complaint against the country’s prime minister, if we suspect that he violated the law. Members’ donations help us to remain independent of parties and to sanction politicians, regardless of whether the government is PSD, UDMR, USR PLUS or PNL.
Anca, I told you that there were many who accused us, in order to divert our approach to DNA. But there were also people who encouraged us. Like the taxi driver who took us to the DNA on Friday morning. He heard us talking and had an emotional reaction after learning that we were from Declic: I can’t believe how lucky I am! He knew about our action at DNA, who we are and what we are fighting for. He encouraged us and told us that he supports us unconditionally. I admit that I said to myself: It’s good that there are people who are not influenced by bad news and that they are on the same wavelength as us.
Beyond the legal implications of this denunciation, the Declic Community has sent a strong message: no politician is above the law and no one can prevent a citizen from exercising a democratic right. We risk, however, that our strong message now will be lost if we do not react as promptly to the next slip of a politician.
It is sometimes overwhelming to think that we cannot do quick and impactful actions as much as we would like, due to lack of funds. In order to be able to mobilize effectively in crisis situations and to maintain our independence in front of politicians, it is important to have a small reserve. Or white money for dark days, as popular wisdom says.
Below is a button that will redirect you to the donation page. You can choose from there one of the preselected amounts or you can choose how much you choose to contribute. You have no reason to worry about payment, it is a safe and fast process. Just like when you shop online. Anca, when politicians have party companies and businessmen with high interests behind them, we rely only on the monthly contributions of Declic members. Press the yellow button and you also contribute monthly. You can contribute the value of a single taxi ride. If everyone does the same, enough money will be raised to sanction, at any time, any slippage of the political class.
Together for democratic endeavors,
Anduța, Denisa and the Declic team
PS We do not know what the investigators will decide regarding our denunciation, but we know that we did the right thing by notifying the criminal investigation bodies. We want the prime ministers of Romania, as all dignitaries, in fact, to understand that state functions are not tools for winning internal political struggles. Contribute to the continuation of democratic efforts “, is the message sent by the Declic community.
