Around 2 p.m. a farmer decided to clean his tractor in the water after a day of work on the land. The vehicle was covered in mud, something that normally rinses off easily by driving through the water.
–
However, the soil of the Boven-Merwede was so muddy that the farmer got stuck in it after a few meters.
–
A colleague tried to pull the farmer asking for help out of the water, but had to go into the water first with his tractor. But he also got stuck.
–
Instead of a third colleague staying on the side to call the emergency services, he decided to give it a try. Not very surprising: his wheels were also swallowed up by the mud.
–
In the end, Rijkswaterstaat was called, who came with a crawler towing vehicle. The tractors could be taken out of the water around 5 p.m. The farmers eventually had to spend all those hours on the water. “This did not go well”, the Duty Officer writes on Twitter.
–
Rijkswaterstaat says that the incident has nothing to do with the protests in The Hague and that the farmers were working on the land today.
