Planning for 96 houses stopped
A large-scale local development project in Lilienthal came to an abrupt end in March with a bang. For many months, the building project in a central location had aroused people and divided the community. An investor was planning to build 96 terraced houses on an area on Mauerseglerstrasse. Seniors and social housing should also be added. The community leaders around Mayor Kristian Tangermann (CDU) promoted the project benevolently, especially since the investor from Bremen had promised to build a day care center and elementary school on Mauerseglerstrasse.
Opponents of the project stated that the face of the place had already changed too much in recent years due to the large number of new buildings, and that the educational and care infrastructure in Lilienthal could already not keep up with the increased number of children. Therefore, more apartments are the wrong way to go. In addition, an equestrian club located on the building site would have had to limit itself considerably. And the operator of a neighboring facility for the disabled was concerned about the loss of a local recreation area. Then in March the bang: after the mayor had learned that an attempt had been made to bribe a member of the municipal council before the decisive votes, he stopped the planning. The long-planned construction project on Mauerseglerstrasse was history within a few weeks. The matter is not quite over yet. The public prosecutor’s office is still investigating the bribery matter to this day. And the riding club is fighting legally with a landowner about the continued use of the leased land.
