What education do we want?

The “HumanismusPlus” campaign to strengthen personality development starts on November 9th

“HumanismusPlus” is an initiative of the Center for Ignatian Pedagogy, which advocates comprehensive personality development in the Jesuit tradition. The aim is to revitalize the social debate about the purpose of education and to strengthen an approach that allows individuals and communities to develop their potential holistically. In contrast to being used for external concerns such as employability, learning is characterized by a fundamental development of character and virtues. To that extent it is a question of humanism. The Ignatian character makes it a “humanism plus” that goes beyond worldly matters and allows the “question of God”. This formula expresses the fact that Ignatian personality development takes the spiritual meaning of life into consideration, but rejects indoctrination and dogmatism. It is therefore expressly compatible with secular educational approaches.

In order to determine the need for the topic, we commissioned an Allensbach study. With our campaign kick-off, we intend, firstly, to analyze the need for more and better personality development as evidenced by the Allensbach study; secondly, to shed light on the ideal background of Ignatian personality development and, thirdly, to show methods of their concrete implementation in teaching practice and teacher training.
