After the hard comes the earth. The first two Masters of the season, on hard surface, saw two young talents win, in American territory. April gives way to the first ATP 1000 tournament on clay. From 10 to 17, towards Monaco, for the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters. Stefanos Tsitsipas, winner in the previous edition, is putting his title back on the line. The opportunity for him to face the best players in the world to win this Monte-Carlo 2022, and pocket increased prize money.
The prize money for this Monte-Carlo 2022 reaches €5.8 million
Far from the health situation of last year, the Monegasque tournament increased its prize money, so as to reach 5.8 M€, including 5.4 to reward the sports performance of the players. The winner will win the SAS Le Prince Souverain cup, as well as nearly $1.2 million, the equivalent of €1.1 million, while the finalist will receive almost €592,166 ($646,110). For players who are eliminated in the first round, compensation of approximately €15,410 ($18,200) will be paid.
Many notable absentees on the Rock
In addition to Roger Federer, long-time injured, the most successful player on clay in Monte-Carlo (11) will be missing. Rafael Nadal, who had started his season perfectly, will not be present for the first Masters on clay. Daniil Medvedev, as well as Dominic Thiem will also not participate in the tournament. On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz, worthy heir of the Taurus of Manacor, and freshly winner of his first big trophy in Miami, is among the favorites.
