The District Court of Varsinais-Finland has fined a man who tried to lure teenage girls into a secret relationship.
The man appeared to the two girls as a 39-year-old wealthy man. In reality, he was a low-income 27-year-old.
The acts took place in the spring of 2023 in Salo and Turku. In April, the man sent a message to the 16-year-old girl, in which he asked if the girl would start a secret relationship if she was interested in money.
The girl thought it was strange because of her age. The man said that he had been in a secret relationship with a 16-year-old once before.
– Let’s keep this a secret and I’ll make her such a spoiled and rich girl that everyone will be jealous after that, the man promised the girl.
The girl stopped messaging and informed her mother about it.
Told about a previous secret relationship
In May, the man appeared again at the age of 39 and lured the 15-year-old into a secret relationship with money.
When the young person asked what a secret relationship means, the man told about his previous secret relationship. According to the man, he had spent nights with the other party in a hotel suite and paid the other party to be defiant.
The young person stopped communicating with the man.
Fines
According to the district court of Varsinais-Finland, the man tried to lure girls into sexual intercourse or other sexual acts with messages. According to the court, the man’s purpose was also to get the girls to send sexual pictures and videos.
The man admitted the acts.
The court sentenced the now 29-year-old man to a 70-day fine. The price of one daily fine was 6 euros, i.e. the minimum daily fine. The man had to pay 420 euros.
The crime in both cases was a rare attempt to offer compensation for a sexual act against a young person.
In addition, the man was ordered to compensate the 15-year-old 600 euros for the suffering.
The judgment is not binding.
A borderline case
The district court considered the events to be a borderline case and considered whether the man should be sentenced to prison instead of fines for the crimes.
In the court’s opinion, the fact that there were two cases and the victims were young supported a prison sentence.
The fines were again defended by the fact that the acts took place via text messages, and the man did not propose a concrete meeting. The events did not last long either.
The fact that the man had sought professional help after his actions also spoke in favor of the fines.
