Libero is a player whose role in volleyball is closely related to defense. His task is to receive serves and support the team in defense. The introduction of this position was intended to increase the number of actions and the fluidity of the game, which significantly influenced the dynamics of matches.

In a standard volleyball match There are six players on the field on each side, and a team usually has fourteen players (twelve at the Olympics). The libero is distinguished by a different colored shirt, which symbolizes his special duties.

His role is limited solely to defense. – has no right to attack, serve or jump to block. However, if the opponents make a mistake, the libero can score a point by hitting the ball to their side.

Changes are unlimited but reversible

Libero substitutions are unlimited, but must be returnable – The libero may only enter the court in place of the player he has previously replaced. There has to be action between the two libero changes. In the Polish national team, this key position is held by Paweł Zatorski. Unfortunately, his participation in the final is questionable due to injury.

The libero position was introduced in 1998, which revolutionized the volleyball strategy, increasing the number of dynamic actions and improving the fluidity of the game.
