What do you expect from 2024? – we asked Zoltán Kammerer, mayor of Göd – Dunakanyar Region

If I could only answer very briefly, I would say; I expect the huge momentum that characterized Gödö in the second half of 2023 to continue in 2024.

When I was elected last May, I set myself the goal that the city would function stably again and be much more orderly than before. In the past months, we have started tidying up inside and outside, both on the streets and in institutions. I consider it a serious achievement that the work of the representative body now takes place within a much fairer framework, we have achieved that instead of the fights and extraordinary meetings that often go on into the night, the usual monthly meeting is usually enough, where important decisions are made without loud discussions and personalization, so it is possible to manage the affairs of a city much more effectively.

As one of my first measures, I settled the long-critical urban green waste issue. With the help of the local government, the local waste management company has made it possible to drop off green waste free of charge since the summer, and the company also provides home delivery. We also mowed the grass in places where the public area had not been taken care of for years – in 2024, we want to include even more parts in the care, tree planting and flowering program. The people of Göd mostly want a more livable, healthier city, where roads and sidewalks are of good quality, public lighting is good, the previously closed post office is open again, and there is enough space in nurseries, kindergartens and schools.

Substantial progress has been made in each of these areas, the renovation of several roads, which are important for local traffic, took place, new sidewalks were handed over, in addition to the paving of four streets, another four are being planned, and the complex public lighting program will start in the spring. We bought the post office building in Löszgöd from Magyar Posta Zrt., which we will reopen shortly, and the city’s wealth is also expanded with another property, the building of the new kindergarten, for which we won HUF 840 million in a tender. Fortunately we also managed to arrange the city’s relationship with Samsung SDI. A proper dialogue was established between the company giant and Göd, the factory’s management keeps its previous promise to support the local sports and cultural life and to beautify the city. Nevertheless the six monitoring wells can be completed by spring, so we will have our own data on the state of the groundwater in Göd, because for us the safety of the people living here comes first, and we will not compromise on that.

In the New Year, we will continue the series of high-quality city events. Last year, we organized the End of Summer Festival, cocoa snail, lecsó and beer festival, Gödi Advent in our city, and now on the second Saturday of January, we are organizing the 1st Sausage Filling Competition, where everyone is warmly welcome! Our goal is to bring the different generations together and build a cohesive community in Göd with the monthly and bimonthly events.
