TRIESTE. On the day that marks the white smoke on the agreement for the participation of family doctors in the vaccination campaign, the Nas seize the last 50 remaining doses of the first batch of 5,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine that arrived in Friuli Venezia Giulia in February.
Although no suspected cases emerge in the region, it is a game that could have caused important adverse reactions including the death of two people in Sicily. These are the good and bad news of the umpteenth field day on the front of the fight against the pandemic, during which the government and territories also discussed the changes to the vaccination plan, which after the over 80s will favor people with disabilities and the 70-year-olds.
There are 4,950 doses of batch ABV2856 Astrazeneca inoculated in the region between February and March, of which 1,600 injected in February in Cattinara to the personnel of essential services and in particular of the university and of the armed and police forces. Another hundred were administered in Monfalcone. As confirmed by the vice president Riccardo Riccardi, administrations of the same batch of the vaccine intended for under-65s took place throughout the Fvg, without experiencing abnormal effects. The last 50 doses of the batch were seized yesterday by the Nas in the warehouses of Azienda zero in Pordenone.
The commissioner announced that “from the moment we received the communication, the doses in our possession were immediately set aside and made available to Nas”.
This is a precautionary blockade, as indicated by the Italian Medicines Agency: the decision was taken after the death of a soldier and a policeman in Sicily, which is believed to have occurred by reaction the day after the injection . The same batch may have resulted in the deaths of two people in Denmark and Austria, as well as some cases of thrombosis. However, the AIFA underlines that no causal links have yet been established. «In February 3,600 doses of the batch were administered – Riccardi clarified – without any particular adverse reactions being encountered. We must keep our feet on the ground and continue the campaign.
Meanwhile, the signing of the agreement between the Region and general practitioners is expected at the beginning of next week. The white smoke arrived yesterday, after days of controversy over the remuneration asked by professionals for home injections to be practiced for at least seven thousand over 80 unable to leave the house. To the initial request for 32 euros, the council responded with a counter-proposal of 25 euros, which are limited to 6 for vaccinations in the districts and 10 for those in their own clinic. The doctors accepted and the secretary of Fimmg Fvg Dino Trento says that “we are now awaiting the organizational indications of the health authorities”. The economic agreement “has never been a problem – specifies the Trieste secretary of the Fimmg Francesco Franzin – and we discussed issues to complete the agreement, reiterating that the adhesion of doctors is voluntary and that vaccination must always take place in the presence of a doctor and a health worker made available to the reference company “. The president of Snami Fvg Stefano Vignando confirms that “the proposal is fine, because we understand the moment and the economic sacrifices of the Region”. The crux will be figuring out how many affiliated doctors will join out of the approximately one thousand present in Fvg, but for Vignando “participation is voluntary and it is impossible to make estimates”.
Reinforcements will also arrive within a couple of weeks thanks to medical specialists. The Region had asked the commissioner to manage 300 medical doctors for prophylaxis, receiving only 49, while the universities estimate that at least half of the over a thousand doctors in training active in Trieste and Udine would join. As the rector of the Julian University Roberto Di Lenarda points out, “we can become operational within ten days. The national agreement was found, providing for voluntary membership and outside training hours. Now there is also an agreement between the University and the Region ». It is hoped that a share of the ten thousand nurses operating in Fvg will soon be part of the game.
There was also a discussion between the government and the Regions on changes to the vaccination plan. After school staff, law enforcement and over 80 (expected end for mid-May), it will be up to people with disabilities and serious illnesses, as well as their caregivers, to then move on to the seventies. «We await the formal documents – says Riccardi – but we are ready to vaccinate whoever will be indicated. We proceed quickly and we have reached the daily average of 3,300 administrations: with the opening of the out-of-hospital offices we will be able to do seven thousand vaccines a day. With postgraduates, nurses and family doctors we would have an important benefit ». –
