Director Rolandas Kalniņš is often called the conscience of Latvian cinema. The outstanding master has managed to receive a unique gift of destiny – to experience a whole century – on May 7, looking forward to the centenary of his life.
The editor of the cultural program, film critic Daira Āboliņa, who is one of the creators of the program “Roland Kalniņa’s Century”, says: knows what he has done brilliantly in his life, he has always been able to reflect on different periods of Latvia, and turn the stages of the crisis into films and do it very personally. [..] Rolands Kalniņš’s filmography is our common history, it is filmed on film with Rolands Kalniņš’s taste, sense of style, reverence, intelligence. We can see many of the stages of life that Roland Kalniņš himself has had to go through and that the Latvian state has experienced in such a personalized way in Kalniņš’s films. “
The show includes a new interview with Rolandas Kalniņš, which was made a few months ago. In it he analyzes history, his life and looks back at his contemporaries. It has been supplemented with talks with actors important to Kalniņš – Indra Briķis, Vizma Kvēps, Kaspars Znotins, Regīna Razums and cameraman Miku Zvirbulis.
