NEW YORK.- Ian Alexander Jr., only child of actress and filmmaker Regina King, passed away just a few days after celebrating his 26th birthday, which took place last Wednesday.
“Our family is devastated to the core by the loss of Ian,” the family said in a statement released Saturday by a spokesman for King. “He is a very bright light who cared a lot about the happiness of others. Our family requests your respectful consideration during this private time.”
The spokesman confirmed that the death had been a suicide. No further details were reported.
The director of “One Night in Miami” had Alexander with her ex-husband, the record producer Ian Alexander sénior. The couple split in 2007 after 10 years of marriage.
Alexander son was a musician and DJ who frequently accompanied King to red carpet events.
Alexander told E! News during the delivery of the 2019 Golden Globes that Regina King “is a supermom. It doesn’t allow bad days at work or anything to come back and ruin the time we have. It’s amazing to have a mother that I enjoy being with.”
