He made his debut at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet, starring in Peter Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin. During his professional career, Izjumov has sung major roles in almost all classical world operas – Verdi’s “Traviata”, Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”, Tchaikovsky’s “Lady of Spades”, Rachmaninov’s “Aleko” and many others. He has worked at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet for more than 40 years.
Izjumov’s baritone timbre has a velvety hue and a warm sound, but on stage he dazzles the audience with his inherited talent from the parents and the charisma given by nature. Izjumova’s extensive repertoire includes major baritone roles such as Nabucco, Rigoleto, Macbeth, Scarpia, Eugene Onegin, Tomsk, Charlotte, Poza, Georges Germon, Boris Izmailov, Aleko, Demon, and solo vocals Mozart, Bress, Forward. He also has an extensive repertoire of chamber music, with which he has performed both in Latvia and abroad.
Izjumov has performed in Russia, Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, England and Finland and elsewhere in the world. The opera singer has performed with foreign conductors Roman Kofman, Valery Gergiev and Yevgeny Kolobov, has also performed Mussorgsky’s “Dances and Songs of Death” in Milan, Rachmaninov’s opera “Aleko” in Paris and sang at the Rimsky-Korsakov Opera in Bregenz. He has also successfully participated in several international vocal competitions, including winning 1st place. George Ots International Vocal Competition in Tallinn. Izjumov is a great angler and mushroom picker, but at home he likes to listen to something from the popular French or Italian pop music.
He has received the Grand Music Award for the role of Scarpia in Puccini’s opera Tosca and the title role in Verdi’s opera Nabucco, as well as the Aldara International Award of the Year and the Latvian Gas Award for Lifetime Achievement. This year, together with conductor Imants Resni, he will also receive the Grand Music Award for his lifetime contribution.
