Argentina national team star Lionel Messi felt that he and his teammates wanted to play the match against Mexico with great anticipation to make up for the loss in the first match against the Saudi national team.
Messi led the Argentina national team to victory over their Mexican counterparts, 2-0, by scoring the opening goal, and was chosen as the man of the match.
Messi said in press statements after the match: “We were very angry about the defeat against Saudi Arabia. Time was running out. We wanted the clash (against Mexico) to come. We knew it was an important match and that by winning it we would he would be back in the league. It was a relief.” For the morale of the team, we feel happy because we are alone again.”
And he adds: “The first half was difficult, we couldn’t find space. After the first goal the match changed because the situation made us defend the result. Now we will face Poland in a different way”.
Messi, who paid tribute to teammate Enzo Fernandez who scored the second goal, continued: “We knew we had to play calmly, we were in a hurry, we knew it, but the situation leads you to play like this. Enzo is not surprised” For us it is very important. I am very happy for him because he has given us a sense of relief.”
Interestingly, Messi managed in the Mexico match to equalize his compatriot, legend Diego Maradona, playing the 21st match of the World Cup.
