what did foreigners see in the “White Sun of the Desert”

Comrade Sukhov’s story interested the West.

It has long been known that some Soviet tapes were successfully “shot” abroad. Among them are the fairy tale “Morozko”, adored in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the drama “Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears”, which thundered across America, and almost all the paintings by Andrei Tarkovsky. But few people know that the “White Sun of the Desert” was passionately loved not only in the USSR.

Western viewers were very “hooked” by Comrade Sukhov’s story. In the United States and Europe, in general, respect for images that tell the story of a person’s life. However, the main secret of the success of The White Sun of the Desert abroad lies in the fact that it is impossible even to imagine for the Russian public, which is not used to attaching other people’s labels to their native paintings.

In the West, the adventure western genre, which originated in America, is very popular. True, it would be more correct to call the Soviet film an oriental, that is, a derivative of the word “east” – “east”, because the action of the film does not take place in the West, as in classic westerns.

Although Vladimir Motyl’s tape received international recognition and won the love of Soviet citizens, it did not receive a single prestigious award. However, because of this, the audience did not endear less to this wonderful film.
