What Causes Heart Rhythm Disorders?

The incidence of ischemic stroke in patients with heart rhythm disorders is 5 times higher.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Dr. Rakhmad Hidayat, Sp.S(K) explained, there are various causes heart rhythm disorders aka arrhythmia. Genetic factors, abnormal heart electrical signals, and changes in normal heart tissue can play a role.

According to dr. Rakhmad, the number of events stroke ischemia in patients arrhythmia five times higher. The relationship between arrhythmia and stroke begins with a disturbance in heart contractions, thus making blood flow blocked.

The blocked blood flow will form a clot (thromboembolism), which can travel to the brain, block blood vessels in the brain, and eventually cause a stroke. Stroke itself can also trigger arrhythmias.

Rakhmad said, damage to brain tissue affects the autonomic nervous system in the body that regulates the rhythm and rate of the heart. Brain cell death can also stimulate the body’s general inflammatory response that triggers arrhythmias.
