The series takes place a hundred years after Vikings off. Still, much attention has been paid to the mythology of the original series. When the main characters meet in Kattegat, “are they talking about the legends that were there before, Ragnar Lothbrok, Lagertha and Bjorn Ironside and Ivar the Boneless”.
But new heroes are central. “It’s about Harald Hardrada and Eric de Rode, and maybe some more famous Viking names.”
The series has already been shot in Ireland, the first season, and will be a little less large-scale than the last episodes of Vikings. “You can’t make it much bigger than that, frankly. But there are a lot of the same places in there, like Kattegat. That’s of course the spiritual home of Vikings. But it’s really different, becoming one of the largest trading cities in Europe.
