What can I do once I am vaccinated against COVID-19?

(CRHoy.com) .- Vaccination against COVID-19 has been a constant struggle of all governments, since it is so far the best tool to combat the virus.

But so far, many people still do not know what can be achieved if eventually a herd immunity is achieved, or the majority of the population manages to be immunized.

For this reason, CRHoy.com interviewed Larisa Ramírez, AstraZeneca Medical Director for Latin America and Barbara Furtado, Vaccine Medical Manager in Brazil, who agreed that the only way to return to normality is the placement of the vaccine.

Ramírez commented that a fundamental aspect to be able to do activities that were very common before the pandemic, is to be surrounded by people who have the complete vaccination schedule.

This is because once all people are immunized against COVID-19, it is less likely to transmit the virus from person to person, since its virality is greatly reduced.

What can people already vaccinated do?

As an example, the Medical Director confirmed that a family could go out to eat at a restaurant, walk in open places and share with more people applying all the protocols, if the whole nucleus is already fully vaccinated.

Likewise, referring to other realities in other countries, he confirmed that activities such as back to school without restrictions it could be another benefit that herd immunity would leave, because the risk of students getting sick and falling in hospitals would be minimal.

And following this same line, he affirmed that social activities such as concerts, fairs and celebrations as such, as well as sports activities such as races, soccer games, etc; they could be carried out under this same condition.

However, the use of a mask, hand washing and distancing protocols will continue to accompany even longer and will be necessary, since they are the only effective ways, together with vaccination to stop the pandemic.

Furtado supported all this information and pointed out in an important way, that vaccines will not only allow us to do all this in a short time, but will also help prevent more variants of COVID-19 from being created, which would help stop infections, hospitalizations and deaths at very favorable levels.

Safe vaccines

Barbara Furtado, Medical Manager, assured that the multiple myths surrounding the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine have greatly affected the population who hesitate to place it, even when these are totally false.

But what are these myths? In the words of the specialist, the biggest lie around vaccines is that they are not safe, since the creation and research was carried out under all possible scientific parameters.

“Many people say that these vaccines are not safe due to the adverse effects that in most cases, they can cause. However, the vaccine is trained to our body to a defense against the virus and these secondary effects can appear with much less impact than if the virus were contracted ”; Furtado said.

Likewise, and along this same line, it is believed that vaccines, having been created so quickly, do not have the necessary scientific studies, to which Furtado replied that scientific procedures have existed since the 80s and technology allowed the vaccine to be achieved , which does have the necessary scientific support.

On the other hand, the specialist also refuted about the thrombi that the vaccine can produce, which are very unlikely and there is a much higher risk of contracting a clot after being infected with COVID-19.

Explaining this, both experts commented that getting vaccinated is still essential because, according to world data, 9 out of 10 patients are protected against hospitalization by COVID-19 and about 90% of those vaccinated will not die from contracting the virus.

In this way and in order to return to normality as soon as possible, the specialists invite all people who have not been vaccinated not to get carried away by myths and to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in a responsible way.
