What BP is looking for in Romania through Greece, when Ellector will speak about Elector and what 12 Greek companies are up to in London – Economic Courier – 2024-04-19 03:38:33

Romania

Romania is the new pole of attraction for investments in Renewable Energy Sources.

And it has been discovered by PPC, after the recent acquisition of Enel’s assets in the country, which included a 600 MW RES, HELLENiQ ENERGY acquiring more than 210 MW of photovoltaics from Mytilineos and of course the latter company, which also has an important photovoltaic portfolio.

Lightsource bp

Lightsource bp is also preparing to enter Romania.

Let me remind you that this is the company – arm of BP in the development of on shore RES projects internationally.

Lightsource bp – Greece will undertake to scan the Romanian market for investment opportunities in RES portfolios. That is, its subsidiary in Greece, which also recently received approval for scanning… the specific Balkan market…

Elector

I will take you to another “green” sector of the economy.

That of the circular economy and specifically in waste management.

As is known, one of the innovative companies is Elektor, which belongs to Ellaktor. At least for now…

And I say this as Motor Oil, which incidentally is also a shareholder of Elektor, is doing due diligence on Elektor in order to examine and evaluate its financial and technical data in order to decide whether or not to submit an offer for its acquisition.

Motor Oil and Ellactor have also made related announcements.

Elektor

I understand that Elektor has not yet received any formal proposal from Motor Oil to acquire Elektor.
However, the position of the management of Ellactor in the upcoming briefing of the analysts tomorrow on April 18, on the occasion of the announcement of its annual financial results, is expected with interest.

Rebrain Greece

An important initiative is Rebrain Greece, the digital platform supervised by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and whose purpose is to connect Greeks who have immigrated abroad with domestic businesses that are looking for executives as well as specialized staff.

On April 20, Rebrain Greece is organizing a special event in London aiming at the repatriation of Greek professionals employed in the United Kingdom and their employment in Greek companies.

Twelve major companies will be in London to present employment opportunities.

These are GEK TERNA, PPC, HELLENiQ ENERGY, Lamda Development, Cosmote, Alpha Bank, ElvalHalcor, Cenergy, EY, DEMO, ARCHIRODON and A AN G Holdings Group.

Equation

We have said that accuracy is a complex problem. It is about prices in relation to disposable income. If prices rise – even marginally – and disposable income falls short of household needs, then the result of the equation is precision! Everything else comes from there…

Anger

At the Delphi Forum and especially in the panel, where industry and retail were discussing, the president of IELKA and professor Mr. George Doukidis, the data he presented were revealing of consumer moods and attitudes. The professor said, among others, that due to inflation, 36% of citizens feel insecure, 29% angry and 20% afraid. And 4 out of 10 citizens estimate that they will be forced to reduce their spending on product purchases in the next six months. You understand the social context in which the next electoral contest will take place!

Rents and taxes

But Mr. Doukidis added that 2/3 of the income is “absorbed” by the cost of rents and taxes and many now consider the problem to be low income and high prices. The equation we were talking about above…

Private label

Also 3 out of 4 consumers buy products with cost as the main criterion – so it is no coincidence that private label products are growing – 9 out of 10 consumers look for the offers on the supermarket shelves. 5 out of 10 consumers are switching from their usual brand and looking for something cheaper – ie private label. At the same time, 9 out of 10 consumers believe that the increase in prices is due to speculation!

Reversible?

This is the state of the market and the moods, but also the capabilities of consumers. And it seems that it is not reversible anytime soon. But the risk for businesses – on the other hand – is that the phenomenon that plagued the market in 2022 and for several months in 2023 will return. Which is none other than the reduction in sales volume! And all this without having – knock on wood! – some extraordinary circumstances from developments in the Middle East….
