Sascha Van Stichel will remember this unfortunate incident for a long time to come. Despite the fact that the man from Halle received a report from Bol.com on Wednesday that his package had been delivered, he and his girlfriend had not received anything. The images captured by the doorbell camera brought clarity: some garbage collectors thought it was old paper and took his order with them. “I was a bit stunned at first, but now I can see the humor in it,” he said afterwards. “That’s why I edited the images one after the other.”

Sascha had ordered cat litter via the site on Tuesday evening. “As usual, that would be delivered the next day,” said the man. “We were not at home at the time of delivery and had also missed the notification from our doorbell. Later in the afternoon, my friend came home, saw the notification that the package had been delivered, but couldn’t find it anywhere.” The couple subsequently decided to view the images of the doorbell, with the known result.

The man contacted customer service the same day. “After my story, there was silence on the other end of the line. After sending my images they immediately resend the order. Bol.com will now fight with PostNL what to do next.”

Despite the unpleasant situation, Sascha can now laugh about it. Nevertheless, he does have questions about the way delivery services handle orders. “I understand that they are under very high pressure and that it is certainly not an easy job. But our delivery preferences clearly state that if we are not at home, the package must be presented to the neighbors or taken to a postal point,” he says. “Unfortunately, it is not the first time that we have encountered problems with this. A striking example: the cat litter that Bol.com has sent us again is currently back at my front door. Fortunately not next to old paper this time.”
